General Meeting 2010

The General Meeting took place on 9 July 2010. It was the first one summoned by the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association.
The meeting focused mainly on the recent birth of the new Association’s website.
The President explained that the website launched on-line few a days before the General Meeting, but it already had a considerable number of registered members that in this way also became members of the Association. He noticed however that in these first steps the registered members restrained from inserting their ideas, proposals, stories, experiences, etc., even if the aim of the website is to make it an instrument that allows all the 3on3 basketball fans and playground basketball fans in general to partake and create links among them. Since the beginning of the project it was clear that it would have taken a long time to develop the website. The growth will be certainly slow, above all because it is a very specialized website and it needs an active and constant contribution by the registered members. Nevertheless, the assembly decided not to force the development of the website and not to promote it with an advertising campaign but to use the word of mouth among friends, enthusiasts and fans.
The assembly established to verify the opportunity to transform the annual General Meeting in a longer event of more days that could mix the discussion about the future of the website and of the Association with the possibility to create collaborations among the members and to give opportunities for public relations.
Finally the executives of the Association were urged to carefully evaluate activities in which to involve the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD, even if it should be as a simple external collaboration.

General Meeting 2011

The second General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association took place on 17 June 2011.
The whole managing council and a good number of members attended.
There was a lively discussion and exchange of opinions and experiences among the members coming from different Nations and this has created the premises for future collaborations.
With satisfaction, the President pointed out that FIBA officially changed the 3on3 basketball rules following the suggestions of the Association. He hopes that the rule about the time accorded to a team to attempt a shot for a field goal will also be changed in future.
Moreover the President explained the first results of the experiments started together with some Organizations in the United States and in Europe, finalized to the creation, in a five-year period, of a specific 3on3 technical school to form players, coaches and referees.
The assembly decided that the Association has to intensify the partnerships with those Organizations with whom the President is already collaborating as consultant, with the intention to try to influence the future of the international 3on3 movement, both from a technical point of view and also concerning the diffusion and promotion towards players, media and fans.
The Communications Office of the Association presented to the attendees the idea for a new television format focused on 3on3 basketball that soon will be proposed to several TV producers.
Following the proposal sent to this website by a member of the Association, the assembly established that requests of collaboration coming from Organizations which deal with 5on5 basketball will be accepted as long as in the streetball or playground version, and as long as these Organizations are willing to join also in 3on3 activity.

General Meeting 2012

The third General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association took place on 9 June 2012.
The assembly proceeded with the official confirmation of the President (Mr. Fabio Massarutto) and of the members of the managing council of the Association for the next three-year period. The assembly confirmed also the decision to use and communicate the acronym “3IBB3” to indicate the Association, as an alternative to the denomination “INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD”.
The proposal of the President to charge official representatives of the Association in those Nations where there are the strongest relationships and exchanges has been approved. This will permit to face the increasing representation commitments. No new local representative offices will be opened.
A great general appreciation confirmed how the Association has become, in the last years, a benchmark for fans and Organizations that work in this field.
The President described the projects developed by the Association’s experts that are getting consent and a large follow up worldwide. The assembly decided to launch a members-only contest: any member of the Association can send new ideas and projects within February 2013. The most interesting ones will be awarded and afterwards studied and structured by the Association's experts.
The assembly decided to let all the members free to take part in the FIBA 3X3 business, but the Association will continue to increase the contacts and collaborations above all with those Organizations and companies that aim to promote a more independent-free-genuine 3on3/playground/street basketball activity.
As already included in a previous program plan and spurred on by some members, the assembly decided to keep collaborating with humanitarian projects that use 3on3 basketball to help children grow and, in particular, to start working together with the world renowned organization SAVE THE CHILDREN. The members of the Association who would like to spread 3on3 basketball and in the meanwhile to do something good by helping SAVE THE CHILDREN can signal their willingness by email.

General Meeting 2013

The fourth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 8 June 2013.
The President reported on the activity of the Association during the last year. The most significant news was the increasing request of consultancies from Organizations and other entities operating in the management of events, camps and 3on3 exhibition tournaments all over the world. The President reported a special request concerning the idea of an American company that is trying to start a professional 3on3 league in the U.S.A and that has asked 3IBB3 to develop a long term plan.
The assembly unanimously confirmed the decision not to make widely known to which Organizations or entities 3IBB3 gives its consultancy and collaboration in order to guarantee the privacy to the Organizations with whom the Association works and to avoid the possibility of being involved on the media in potential failures and mistakes due to other people's faults, as it has already happened one time some years ago.
Concerning the projects that the Association profusely creates and proposes worldwide in order to give to 3on3 new and original perspectives, it was noted the strong interest that above all the TV formats are getting.
The members-only contest launched by the Association, ended last February, was won by an event format that uses a new playing formula with 20 teams that continuously challenge each other. This project will be soon presented to selected Organizations operating in Europe and Asia.
Many members of the Association pointed out how FIBA (International Basketball Federation) in its plan of development of 3on3 basketball activity seems to not have a clear idea and is not successful in adapting its own system and standards to a sport that is strongly characterized and quite different from 5on5 basketball. Nevertheless, majority of the assembly thinks that the FIBA development plan is still at the beginning and it is too early to return a verdict about FIBA's choices and actions.
Some 3IBB3's members, coming from Australia, suggested to organize an event reserved only to teams coming from tournaments managed by registered members of the Association. The assembly judged the idea quite interesting since one of the aims of 3IBB3 is that of encouraging exchanges and collaborations among its members. Subscriptions and proposals are therefore expected.

General Meeting 2014

The fifth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 31 May 2014.
Many attendees reported the experiences they lived in the last year and described their hopes for the future.
The members of the managing council of the Association also discussed the last news and the outlook for the next period.
In order to avoid problems that occurred in the past, the assembly decided to strengthen the protection and tutelage of the original projects and ideas proposed by the Association. The aim is to prevent the copying or improper use of new projects and ideas worldwide.
The assembly confirmed also the decision to work always in the background and not to appear during collaborations with other entities.
The President reported that some new projects on the web and on social media will soon be launched.
The President also explained that the relationships with international media, above all in the TV field, will be intensified.
The assembly decided that the efforts of the Association will be largely aimed to the diffusion of 3on3 basketball/streetball in those countries, above all the small ones, where recently there has been an increasing interest in this sport.
Some members proposed to work more on activities regarding youth and women.
Also this year other members proposed the idea to push for the birth of 3on3 professional leagues and university leagues. The President accepted the request to send to each member of the Association specific communications in order to gather in a short time comments and suggestions about these proposals.

General Meeting 2015

The sixth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 13 June 2015.
The assembly approved the renewal of the position of the President, Mr. Fabio Massarutto, and those of the members of the managing council for the next three-year period.
It has been confirmed to the President the task to nominate as “Honorary Members” of the Association those Organizers and Promoters who particularly stand out in the diffusion of independent-free-genuine 3on3/playground/street basketball all over the world.
The President announced that several special projects are being developed in collaboration with some TV networks, with which relationships had already been established regarding 3on3 basketball events. He explained also that some important and specific Institutional projects are making progress. The assembly decided to push on TV programs but to be “careful” in the development of Institutional projects, above all if they expect the involvement of Federations and Regional Bodies.
Following the suggestion of some members coming from Europe and South America, it has been decided to open to the public and promote the test events used to improve new original formats created by 3IBB3's experts that until now had instead always been “invitation only” events. Moreover it has been decided that any member can ask to manage these test events in his own country, provided that there could be the direct supervision of the executives of the Association.
The Administration Office reported that the Association is receiving an ever-increasing number of requests of collaboration coming from Asian countries. It has been decided to support this raise.
The assembly confirmed the importance that 3IBB3's experts keep working in the background during all their activity of consultancy and collaboration.

General Meeting 2016

The seventh General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 18 June 2016.
The assembly approved the variation of the official headquarters and gave extraordinary reconfirmation of the members of the managing council of the Association.
According to the request of some members who regularly manage events, it has been decided to authorize the application of the original 3on3 and 1on1 rules studied by 3IBB3's experts also to events and tournaments which are not directly supervised by the Association.
The President presented a project conceived to have more people using playgrounds to play basketball with friends and to intensify genuine streetball. The project has been approved and it has been agreed to call it “Open Run Games”.
After an extensive discussion, it has been decided to establish a new working group to support the true playground basketball. This group will focus its attention exclusively on this field. It could opt to move forward with its own specific denomination and its own brand (INTERNATIONAL STREETBALL BOARD) at a later time.
The assembly approved the proposal to help any new initiative on the female branch, even if small and local.

General Meeting 2017

The eighth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 17 June 2017.
The assembly confirmed that the main goal of 3IBB3 is to help and promote events, tournaments and activities focused on 3on3 basketball and other forms of streetball. Therefore the Association does not encourage its members to organize multi-sport events. This is because 3IBB3 wants to emphasize and spotlight 3on3 basketball and streetball as much as possible.
Big events are well-liked, provided that the original and authentic spirit of streetball is always preserved.
It is encouraged to combine our sport with music and other forms of art, provided that they belong to the street and urban world.
Regarding the 3on3 Basketball Academy project, 3IBB3 is going to recruit new coaches who have the intention of becoming 3IBB3's experts. Education and training costs for young coaches between the ages of 18 and 30 will be paid for by the Association.
In agreement with the idea of an Asian member, the assembly approved the proposal to endorse and support the Delhi Streetball Festival because it embodies the true values of street basketball.
Following the suggestion of a lot of members from different backgrounds, it has been decided to start thinking about a potential “antidote” to the rising global trend of players who travel to compete in events and tournaments all over the world only to collect prize money. This attitude is in conflict with the real spirit of streetball. All members are encouraged to send their feedback and advice by email to administration@3on3basketballboard.com. Every proposal will be examined by a designated committee.
The President presented some projects which concern so-called sports tourism. The assembly approved this kind of activities as long as they consist in visiting famous playgrounds and are meant to promote sports exchanges between streetball enthusiasts worldwide.

General Meeting 2018

The ninth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 23 June 2018.
The President reported on last year’s activities and explained the direction of 3IBB3’s plans for the future.
He also talked about the many feedback and suggestions the Association received to limit the problem of players who participate in tournaments only to collect the highest prize money available. These solutions are still being evaluated and their actual viability has to be verified.
The assembly approved “crowdfunding” initiatives by single members or directly by the Association itself. This could be a good way provided that the initiatives are directed toward financing new and original projects and that only international platforms of clear reliability and fairness are used.
The President presented the idea of the Association’s managing council to favor and support the worldwide launch of open-run meetings for streetballers where people can play, develop friendships and share experiences. The proposal has been favorably received, hoping that these meetings are always run in the name of the true spirit of streetball.
The participating members analyzed the interesting recent progress of the project on mobile Apps developed by 3IBB3’s experts. Some suggested new possibilities of implementation that will be studied and possibly submitted again later on.
The assembly confirmed that the Association has to keep working in the background without publicizing collaborations with other entities. Consequently, it has been confirmed that 3IBB3 should not have a direct social media presence.
However, it has been also approved to look for new experts in social media strategy. This to improve potential synergies with other entities in the field and to catch the attention of new enthusiasts and influencers supporting specific projects.

General Meeting 2019

The tenth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 22 June 2019.

The assembly gave reconfirmation for three years of the members of the managing council of the Association. 

As the meeting’s first act, there was a celebration of the members who, in recent years, have received awards and recognitions in their countries for their commendable and socially useful sports activities.

The President explained the Association’s privacy policy with its variations adopted in the last year and recommended to everyone to be cautious in the practical implementation of this regulation in any specific activity. 

Once again, the assembly discussed the subject of protection of 3IBB3’s ideas and original projects as well as those of the single members. The text of the document on confidentiality (Non Disclosure Agreement) was approved. Third parties should always be made to sign this document when presenting new initiatives which are still in a stage of planning and/or development.  

The Association will increasingly support the production of doc-videos which describe 3on3 basketball and streetball, and especially stories of those who live this discipline with great passion and complete involvement, from players to enthusiasts to managers to all who operate on the field. Those who wish to manage and push such documentaries will receive logistic and economic aid. 

Another point, which was not in the order of the day, was brought to the assembly’s attention about potential good practices for environmental protection. This matter is of great general interest and the President asked to submit projects which may see our sport as a positive lead. 

Most of the meeting was spent discussing every possible repercussion and consequence of the official debut of 3on3 basketball at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. This will probably have no effects on the genuine and original streetball that is more beloved by 3IBB3's members, but the point of view of many players and experts will inevitably be modified. People in search of “easy” economic gains will probably increase. At the same time, the whole movement will benefit from a sure and positive return in terms of image and notoriety. It has been decided to create a working group made up of members from different parts of the world to better evaluate and understand all the implications of this historic landmark. The first results of this study will be analyzed at the next General Meeting in 2020.

General Meeting 2020

The eleventh General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 27 June 2020.

Due to travel limitations caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the members used remote connections to participate to the General Meeting.

The Assembly emotionally remembered a great friend of the Association who passed away, and expressed sympathy to those members who saw the consequences of the virus closely.

Because of the pandemic, in the last months most of 3on3 basketball activities were cancelled and will continue to be for some time.

Many told of their experiences and reported on the updated situations in their Countries.

This year, the biggest events and tournaments will not take place and therefore all love for this sport will be turned into free movement. Streetballers will never stop playing and almost everywhere they have already started to meet again in the playgrounds. Actually, in some Countries this never ceased. Therefore it’s better to monitor them and make sure they have fun while respecting health rules.

The Assembly decided to encourage the exchange between enthusiasts more and more on social media and other forms of remote communications. 3IBB3 has always looked mainly to support activities on the ground and direct contact between streetballers, but in this case extraordinary circumstances happened.

An interesting joint initiative could be to produce videos with young players who spend their days in the playgrounds, and to film them in any situation describing their real lives’ stories in these “strange” times, to then divulge and share.

For other suggestions and ideas it's better to wait for life to go fully back to normal, and then it will be possible to reschedule events and create new projects that take into account what may have changed, especially in sports management. For this purpose, it was decided to consider to call an extraordinary General Meeting at the end of the year, if at least two fifths of the members will ask for it later on.

General Meeting 2021

The twelfth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 26 June 2021.

Due to ongoing travel limitations caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the members used remote connections to participate to the General Meeting.

We meet again one year later examining nearly the same subjects we did last time.

Until recently, 3on3 basketball activities were quite reduced. Only in some countries were there rare tournaments. In the rest of the world, people played almost “clandestinely”. In the last 2-3 months however, the situation has been evolving and some events of acceptable level have been scheduled. Maybe without or with a small audience, but official games are being held again.

Nevertheless the historic Olympic debut is strongly downsized and will surely not have the impact everyone expected. This is looked at with irony, although not rejoicing, by those long-time streetball figures who have always swallowed poorly the overwhelming and often irrational and unfair interference of FIBA in activities which were brightly managed long before “politicians” turned their eyes on this world.

The discussion continued at length on the clear generational turnover among top players which has been going on and which will explode in view of the 2022 competition season.

The assembly suggested to step in for the revaluation of the criteria that dictate players’ world ranking, obviously not the FIBA ranking but the one that really includes all the best streetballers of the planet. Moreover, the members advised to further explore the idea of a potential ranking for teams and/or clubs.

General Meeting 2022

The thirteenth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 25 June 2022.

The assembly ratified the membership of the managing council of the Association for the next three years.

After the pandemic, which by the way is not definitely over yet, war has broken out in Europe and it is bringing tangible and real consequences all over the world, in every aspect of life, therefore also in the sports field. These are very difficult times, like nothing in the last decades of history. Certainly all this was not predictable, even more so one after the other. But it is precisely from a sport like ours, based on a genuine spirit and a rough but clean struggle, that a new push must come.

The boost caused by the growth in activities and in fans, linked to the Olympic debut of 3on3 basketball, is still interesting but has undeniably felt the effects of the general situation, disappointing those great expectations. First Covid-19 and now the war bring Organizers to try and "save" most of what is already there, and activities generally stop at the national level. In the last period great international events, which had been planned, have not started.

All attending members declared not to foresee the participation in Russian and Belarusian tournaments. A ban on collaborations and exchanges with those two countries is also being implemented. The President invited everyone to still evaluate situations and positions individually as not to penalize enthusiasts and players indiscriminately.

The meeting carried on with the presentation of very peculiar proposals, for example that of some South American members which would like to revive an old idea which was going around some time ago such as “strip streetball” with the performance of especially attractive and "frivolous" female players. Beyond the moral implications in a sports setting, the answer from most of the assembly was to remark that 3on3 basketball is not in crisis, actually it is greatly growing. It just needs to go back to normal soon, without resorting to merely sensationalist initiatives.

The subject of sponsorships was also much discussed and the outlook is that it will first be necessary to definitively come out of the pandemic and arrive at a long-lasting peace agreement in Europe before financial aid levels come close to at least those of 2019. And it will also be necessary to wait approximately two years to reach the supposed level for the post Tokyo Olympics period. Clearly bigger sponsoring companies will have to go back to invest considerably to be able to restart, since they are increasingly realizing that they cannot do without sports events and shows with a live audience. It is equally predictable that it will especially be the most relevant events and most important new projects which will benefit from a restart in investments, while the smaller ones will have to settle for the budget surplus.

General Meeting 2023

The fourteenth General Meeting of the INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD Association (3IBB3) took place on 24 June 2023.

Listening to many members’ reports confirmed that a massive turnover of the world’s top 3on3 basketball players is occurring globally. It is more than a simple generational change, what is happening is a disruption involving the way of playing the game.

The Assembly decided to pursue initiatives to help new younger talents to quickly stand out, also taking action by supporting the expenses to help them grow on a technical level. Aid will be provided also to allow them to travel and take part in tournaments where they can face more experienced opponents.

In the same perspective, it was determined to increase the number of academies to train players on fundamental skills specifically applied to 3on3 basketball. Those same academies will keep working to create more expert coaches too.

With a look to the past, it was established to support activities to remember streetball legends, pillars of our sport.

The Assembly ratified the collaboration with Streetball Authority, a new Organization recently born in North America which intends to promote streetball at all levels. There will be projects to explore how our sport is interpreted and lived in different parts of the world, highlighting differences but also trying to harmonize developmental guidelines.

Special attention will be given to the making of new playgrounds, turning the spotlight on the more functional, peculiar, and artistic ones.

All members encouraged the President and the managing council to move through increasingly more compelling worldwide consulting actions since a lot of new enterprises arise but most are actually improvised and there is no real coordination between them.

Once again, it was reaffirmed that INTERNATIONAL 3ON3 BASKETBALL BOARD must continue to operate from ”behind the scenes”, in order to leave all the focus on the Organizations directly involved in the projects, avoiding being associated where there is in fact no control.
